Darts legend Phil Taylor believes that the way to beat Luke Littler is for players to slow their own throw down to delay The Nuke.Since his stunning breakthrough at the PDC World Darts Championship when he was just 16, the Englishman has blown everyone away.Littler is nigh on unstoppableGettyHis win at the World Matchplay earlier this year ensured he became the youngest player in history to complete the Triple Crown.Winning the Triple Crown consists of taking out the World Darts Championship, the Premier League and the World Matchplay. It’s left Littler with barely anything remaining for him to win that he hasn’t already. But Taylor revealed the blueprint for the rest of the darts field to take down Littler in an interview with the MODUS Super Series of Darts.Put simply, Taylor believed the one way to potentially beat Littler is to slow down.He said: “Yeah, a lot of that [throwing the darts quickly] comes because youngsters practice on their own.“So, they don’t have that person slowing them down .“I used to try and practice with somebody if I could to keep me in that rhythm of playing.“So, that is why a lot when a player plays a younger player [like Littler], they start slowing them down to put them off because they are not used to it.“Anybody who plays Luke Littler will slow their throw down.”Taylor thinks we will see more players follow this methodDoes it work?Well, this isn’t something that Littler has openly complained about since his rise to the top. There is no question that players in games against the 18-year-old do take more time with their throws, but it is hard to say that this works. You just have to look at Littler’s run in 2025 to realise that there is very little an opponent can do to put off The Nuke. This year alone he’s won the World Darts Championship, World Matchplay, Belgian Darts Open, the UK Open and several other events. There are a few opponents that Littler has had spats with, such as James Wade, but as of yet, anything around slowing down Littler’s throw hasn’t worked.Littler continues to blow opponents away most weeksGettyHe has had a few problems with crowds before, and that definitely has had an impact.Earlier this year in Dublin, The Nuke stormed off stage after defeat to Gerwyn Price in the Premier League, throwing his darts to the floor. This followed a couple of exchanges with the rowdy crowd, who saw Price see off Littler, and enjoyed every minute of it.But stopping Littler has proven to be a problem for anyone, and there seems to be no real formula to do it.
