(@NayabSainiBJP/X via PTI Photo)The Haryana Legislative Assembly Wednesday passed a resolution that “all media institutions must refrain from any form of glorification of criminals and gangsters”. The resolution added that the media “should not publish the criminals and gangsters’ photographs and names under any circumstances”.Krishan Lal Panwar, Minister of Panchayats and Development, and Mines and Geology, moved the resolution. “Glorifying criminals projects their image as heroes in the minds of youth. This trend not only weakens the cultural and moral fabric of society but also undermines the tireless efforts of the police force, which works day and night to maintain law and order,” Panwar said.“During discussion on the adjournment motion brought by the opposition on the issue of law and order, concerns were expressed over the growing trend on certain social media platforms of glorifying gangsters and criminals. After a detailed discussion, the House unanimously passed this resolution and agreed to send it to media platforms,” Panwar added.During a brief discussion on the resolution, on the last day of the Monsoon Session, the House urged media platforms to “consciously discourage the tendency of glorifying criminals and instead give priority to such ideas and personalities who inspire the new generation to follow the path of education, hard work and truth”.Speaker Harvinder Kalyan also supported the resolution and assured the House that it would be communicated to all media platforms on behalf of the Haryana Legislative Assembly.On Tuesday in the Assembly, Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini said the state government adopted a zero-tolerance policy against crimes. The government stated that 10,301 cases were registered, 95,723 (92.91 per cent) of which were solved, and 10,385 accused were arrested in the last 6 years.He said women’s safety has been a priority, as the government has established 33 dedicated women’s police stations and integrated the helpline 1091 with Dial-112.
