Erling Haaland makes major change to name ahead of Norway’s World Cup qualifiers

Erling Haaland has officially changed the name on the back of his Norway shirt.The Manchester City star will now include his middle name, Braut, on his kit while playing for his national side. The 25-year-old did go by ‘Erling Braut Haaland’ at the beginning of his career though, when starring at the Under-20 World Cup in 2019.An image of Haaland’s major change to his shirt was revealed on Instagram via a post from football retailer Unisportstore.And Norway manager Stale Solbakken has commented on the change, saying: “That’s his name [Braut], it’s no longer that difficult. I knew nothing of it until now.”Haaland is now following Norwegian tradition, with people typically using both their mother’s and father’s surnames. Following this break, they have clashes against Israel, Estonia and Italy to wrap up their qualifying campaign. And Haaland will hope to have secured a spot at the 2026 World Cup by those games in October and November.
