Derek Chisora could face unbeaten world champion KO artist in 50th fight as Turki Alalshikh makes approach

Wait 5 sec.

Turki Alalshikh is keen to finance a bout between Jai Opetaia and Derek Chisora.Opetaia has been on the professional scene for 10 years now, and remains unbeaten.Opetaia is believed by many to be the world’s best cruiserweight boxerMark Robinson/MatchroomIn his 28 outings, he made his mark on the boxing scene with 22 wins by way of knockout. After reaching a standstill in the cruiserweight division, Opetaia suggested he will move up to heavyweight in the near future following in the footsteps of Oleksandr Usyk.Opetaia has since caught the eye of Saudi boxing promoter, Turki Alalshikh, who wants him to be Chisora’s 50th opponent.Mick Francis, Opetaia’s manager, has voiced his opinion on the potential match-up.He said: “We’ve spoken with Turki – he wants Jai at heavyweight now. And if that were to happen, he’d go straight into number three with the IBF.“There is also an opportunity there to fight Chisora…”Francis revealed that Alalshikh is not the only one who is keen to see Opetaia and Chisora clash. He continued: “I’ve spoken with Queensberry too, and they’re interested.“Everyone knows that fight would be massive. There would be plenty of interest.“Although I’d hate to think how much money Chisora would want, because he’s going to get hurt. He’d be no match for Opetaia. I know Jai would hurt him.“Which is incredible to think about because you win and immediately become the mandatory for the IBF heavyweight crown.”Chisora turned pro in 2007 and is closing in on retirementGettyAfter Chisora beat Otto Wallin in February, the heavyweight legend named his three-fight hit list. He called out unified heavyweight champion Oleksandr Usyk, IBF title holder Daniel Dubois and two-time heavyweight king Anthony Joshua. While the date and opponent remains unknown, as Chisora heads towards his 50th pro bout the rumour mill is churning out options.Having already fought the likes of Usyk, Joseph Parker and Tyson Fury, his record of past opponents is certainly decorated.Despite that, should Chisora find himself up against Opetaia, it would prove to be an uphill battle for the former at this stage of their retrospective careers. Is Jai Opetaia likely to move up divisions anytime soon?It seems like the obvious step for Opetaia to make, but Francis made it clear that his man is in no rush to step up to the heavyweight division.Opetaia maintained his belts with the impressive displayGettyHe explained: “Jai wants to be undisputed cruiserweight champion before moving up. He wants to be remembered as one of the greatest cruiserweights who ever lived.“Guys like Evander Holyfield, David Haye and now Usyk, they are some really big names who started out in the cruiserweight division before moving up to also have massive impact as heavyweights. And Jai wants to do the same. This isn’t all about money and titles for him.“It’s about legacy.”When the day comes, the heavyweight greats will find a tough opponent in Opetaia.
