The nation’s men’s 3×3 basketball team is once again facing the qualifying gauntlet at the prestigious FIBA 3×3 AmeriCup.They’ll have to fight their way into the main draw in León, Mexico, from November 27–30.The AmeriCup is where the Americas’ best compete, but for Guyana, the path to the main stage has always been tough.Their most impressive run came in 2022, when a squad led by Delroy James clawed their way out of qualifiers before a heartbreaking near-miss on a quarterfinal spot in Miami. This year, the road to glory goes through Group A of the qualifying round, where they’ll face off against rivals Jamaica and St. Lucia on November 27.The stakes are clear: win and they’ll get to test their mettle against regional basketball titans Puerto Rico and the Dominican Republic in Group B of the main draw. The Guyana Basketball Federation (GBF) isn’t taking this challenge lightly. To prepare, they’re hosting their National 3×3 Championship on September 27–28 at the Seawall Bandstand. This tournament will be the proving ground, serving as the official tryouts to select Mexico’s final roster.GBF President Michael Singh is ready for the battle. “St. Lucia and Jamaica are worthy opponents,” Singh said, “but we believe in the talent we have. We are determined to field a team capable of surpassing our 2022 performance.”Singh added that the upcoming championships will be an exciting chance to see local and international talent compete for a coveted spot on the national team, providing a crucial look at Guyana’s talent pool. The post Guyana set for gritty qualification battle at FIBA 3×3 AmeriCup appeared first on News Room Guyana.
