The Sree Narayana Dharma Paripalana (SNDP) Yogam Vocational Higher Secondary School in Adimaly, Idukki, bagged the special awards for the best National Service Scheme (NSS) unit and programme officer for the Vocational Higher Secondary Education (VHSE) NSS. Nithin Mohan was chosen for the best programme officer award.The NSS unit’s social service activities over the past three years led to the achievement, said sources from the school.Mr. Mohan said several patients had received goods and financial support through the NSS unit’s palliative home care project, “Njangalum Koodeyudund.” The NSS volunteers collected over three tonnes of electronic waste from the premises of Adimaly panchayat for the past three years. “The reusable items were handed over to the palliative patients free of cost, and the money received through the e-waste sale and old newspaper collection challenge was used to provide financial assistance to the patients,” said Mr. Mohan.A massive biriyani challenge was organised, preparing 6,000 biryani in a single day, collecting ₹4 lakh for the kidney transplantation of a former student at the school.The NSS unit had conducted 33 medical camps in the area for the past three years and renovated six waiting sheds in the Adimaly panchayat.
