Planning a trip to Universal Orlando Resort in September? You might want to double-check the park schedules before locking in your itinerary.Guests visiting during this month may be in for severe disappointment, as several attractions will either be shut down temporarily for refurbishment or, in some cases, closed forever. While some closures are just part of Universal’s regular upkeep schedule, others represent permanent goodbyes. To help you prepare, we’ve pulled together a full breakdown of every ride you won’t be able to experience in September 2025 — and a peek at what’s coming later this year and beyond.Credit: William Warby, FlickrWhat Universal Orlando Resort Is All AboutUniversal Orlando Resort isn’t just one park — it’s a full-blown destination comprising three major theme parks.Universal Studios Florida is the original park, packed with movie-themed rides and shows that bring Hollywood blockbusters to life. From thrilling coasters to family-friendly adventures, this park is all about putting you inside the movies.Islands of Adventure delivers some of the most intense rides in Orlando, with sprawling lands like Marvel Super Hero Island, Jurassic Park, and The Wizarding World of Harry Potter – Hogsmeade. It’s the place where thrill-seekers usually flock first.Credit: Inside The MagicEpic Universe, Universal’s newest park, opened in May 2025 and has shaken the theme park industry. With massive themed areas like SUPER NINTENDO WORLD, Dark Universe (Universal Monsters), How to Train Your Dragon – Isle of Berk, and a brand-new Wizarding World expansion, Epic Universe instantly became a must-see destination for fans of immersive experiences and cutting-edge technology. These three parks make Universal Orlando a powerhouse for thrill rides and themed entertainment. But like any major resort, refurbishments and retirements are part of the deal.Credit: Andrew Boardwine, Inside the MagicSkull Island: Reign of KongIf you’re heading to Islands of Adventure in early September, you’ll have to wait a little longer to climb aboard Skull Island: Reign of Kong. This dark ride, which takes guests on an expedition through dense jungles filled with oversized creatures, went down for refurbishment on August 20. The good news? It reopens on September 3, meaning visitors will still have a chance to face off with the giant ape himself later in the month.Credit: Universal Orlando Resort Hogwarts ExpressFor many fans, riding the Hogwarts Express is as essential as exploring Hogsmeade or Diagon Alley. This iconic train links Universal Studios Florida and Islands of Adventure, allowing guests to travel in style between the two Wizarding World lands. Each direction offers a different ride experience, complete with appearances from fan-favorite characters.Unfortunately, the train will be off the tracks from September 15–19 for a temporary refurbishment. It’s not an extended closure, but if your visit falls on those dates, you’ll have to use the standard park-hopping entrances instead of hopping aboard this magical train.Credit: UniversalHollywood Rip Ride RockitThis one stings a little more. Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit, the towering roller coaster that’s been a Universal Studios Florida staple since 2009, officially closed for good on August 18, 2025. Known for its unique feature allowing riders to pick their own soundtrack for the experience, Rip Ride Rockit blended music and thrills like no other coaster in Orlando. The ride won’t just be closed in September — it will never reopen. Guests visiting from this month forward will only be able to see the coaster’s structure in its dismantling phase as Universal preps the site for whatever comes next.Credit: UniversalVolcano BayAlthough not one of the three main parks listed above, Universal’s water theme park, Volcano Bay, deserves a mention. The park is designed as a year-round destination, but Universal often scales back operations as cooler weather sets in. While September generally sees the park open most days, closures occur on select dates depending on weather and demand.Attractions inside Volcano Bay range from the family-friendly Kopiko Wai Winding River to the high-speed Ko’okiri Body Plunge, where guests drop nearly straight down through a trap door. If water rides are your top priority, keep an eye on the park calendar because certain days could be unexpectedly unavailable.Credit: UniversalLooking Ahead: Future ClosuresWhile September’s closures are enough to keep in mind, Universal has already laid out a schedule for later in the year that could impact fall and winter visits.Dudley Do-Right’s Ripsaw Falls: This log flume comedy adventure, themed after the classic cartoon character, will close for routine maintenance from October 6–31, 2025. It’s one of the few attractions at Islands of Adventure that combines water ride elements with coaster-like drops, so its absence will be felt.Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey: One of the crown jewels of Islands of Adventure, this ride puts you inside Hogwarts Castle. Guests soar through the castle grounds, encounter Dementors, and even dodge a dragon or two thanks to a groundbreaking ride system. From November 10–20, 2025, it will close briefly for upkeep.Volcano Bay Seasonal Closure: Looking further ahead, Universal has already confirmed that Volcano Bay will undergo an extended seasonal closure from October 26, 2026, to March 24, 2027. This isn’t unusual for water parks in Florida, as cooler months make them less practical to operate.Credit: UniversalSeptember Will Be TrickySeptember 2025 won’t be the smoothest month to visit Universal Orlando Resort, with fan-favorites temporarily sidelined and Rip Ride Rockit gone forever. Still, Universal’s lineup remains strong, and new additions at Epic Universe give guests plenty to look forward to. Closures are part of theme park life — and often a sign that something even better may be on the horizon. The post Every Universal Orlando Ride That Will Be Closed in September 2025 appeared first on Inside the Magic.
