The Guyana Police Force has confirmed that three ballot boxes being transported from Berbice were safely delivered to the Guyana Elections Commission (GECOM) headquarters in Georgetown on Friday night, following a road accident along the East Coast Demerara.Police Headquarters reported that the crash occurred at about 20:55 hrs on the LBI Public Road, when an unknown motorcar suddenly drove out of the LBI Access Road into the path of the police escort. In response, the lead police vehicle applied brakes, triggering a chain-reaction collision among the three vehicles, each transporting a ballot box.Ballot boxes secured after multi-vehicle accident at LBIAccording to the police, minibus #BAB 6899, carrying Ballot Box #DF048 from Central Police Station, was the first to apply brakes. This caused motorcar #PXX 7899, transporting Ballot Box #DF047, to collide with its rear, followed by minibus #BAL 2180, which was carrying Ballot Box #DF050 from Whim Police Station, crashing into the back of the motorcar.Several passengers sustained injuries in the accident and were rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation for treatment.Despite the collision, the police assured that all ballot boxes were promptly and securely escorted to GECOM headquarters without compromise.Meanwhile, a member of the Opposition APNU, Christopher Jones, in a Facebook post, also confirmed that the ballot boxes were secured and transported to GECOM.
