One of King Charles’ former staff has caught the attention of numerous news outlets after releasing a memoir documenting his time as a royal butler. Now insiders are claiming that the former butler’s memoir is all part of a plan to discredit Prince Harry. Grant Harrold worked as a butler for Charles between 2004 and 2011, back when he was still the Prince of Wales. His memoir, The Royal Butler, offers a sneak peak behind palace walls and gives a glimpse at what certain royals were really like, (according to Harrold), of course, that would also include Prince Harry. In one part in particular Harrold described how happy both Prince William and Harry were at Charles and Camilla’s wedding. According to him, the two brothers had snuck outside and decorated the newlywed couples’ car, apparently the boys even raced after the car as they drove off as per Vanity Fair. “We all went outside to wave them off and laughed as we saw William and Harry had decorated their car with ‘Just Married.’ As they drove off through the arches to cheers, the boys raced after the car.” This directly contradicts Prince Harry’s version of events Harrold’s story contradicts Harry’s description of what went down on that day in his 2023 memoir: Spare. According to him, the reports that he decorated the car were false. The prince claims that William and he were not happy with the marriage and had even begged their father not to marry Camilla. This contradiction is very deliberate. According to journalist Rob Shuter, insiders have claimed that Harrold is actually working with the king in what seems like a war of the memoirs. “This is Charles hitting back,” writes Shuter, going on to explain, “Harrold’s book is a direct counterattack on Harry. It’s basically saying: don’t believe him, believe me.” What does this mean for the royal reconciliation? If that’s the case then it’s likely all chances of a royal reunion are off. Back in July it seemed as though the Prince and his father could be working to bridge the rift between them, but it seems the desire to mend the relationship is dying with each passing day. Already experts are claiming that the chances of a royal reunion are receding. As for Harry, Shuter claims that the prince is livid at Harrold’s attempt to discredit him with his upcoming memoir, “He knows it’s a takedown,” a friend of Harry’s claimed, “This is the King using loyal old staff to trash his story and make him look bitter and dishonest.” According to Shuter, Harrold isn’t alone as Jack Stooks, a former gardener at Highgrove recently came forward to defend the king from claims from accusations of bullying. The two are allegedly conspiring to present the king as dignified and Camilla as adored while Harry is “the unreliable son rewriting history for profit.” While peace between the Sussexes and the rest of the royal may have been within arms reach a mere few weeks ago, it looks like the proxy battles and minor dramas will continue for a little longer at least.
