‘What I didn’t want’ – PDC star shares worrying photos in hospital after pulling out of tournament

Wait 5 sec.

Gerwyn Price didn’t need to be a doctor to know his hand wasn’t in top shape.Eyebrows were raised when the Welshman was a curious absentee from the Players Championship 25 on Sunday.GettyPrice probably pulled a similar grimace when he saw the state of his right hand[/caption]But those same eyebrows were instantly lowered as Price showed off a swollen right hand via his Instagram. He captioned the photo: “Just what I didn’t want, back to the hospital it is.”What is Gerwyn Price’s injury?Price didn’t disclose what the injury was, although it’s no secret he has had his fair share of hand injuries over the years.‘The Iceman’ was a late withdrawal from a Premier League event in 2022 having sustained a fracture in his right hand – the same one in the picture he shared on social media.Along with the grim picture of his hand, Price kept fans up to date with the injury via further snaps on Instagram. The next featured Price sitting in a chair with an IV drip in his right arm along with the caption: “Not a bed in sight.”Despite the injury, Price showed off his determination to feature at this weekend’s action in Belgium.Wearing a different set of clothes, Price simply wrote: “Hopefully I’m fit for this weekend.”If Price was worried he wouldn’t recover in time for the Flanders Darts Trophy, the following snap may have dispelled those same fears.‘The Iceman’ showed he’d hit a 180 and captioned the picture: “Getting there.”@gerwynpriceiceman180The Welshman’s hand may have ballooned in size…[/caption]@gerwynpriceiceman180But Price believes he will be good to go in time for Antwerp[/caption]@gerwynpriceiceman180And he had the receipts to prove it[/caption]Price in a race against time to be fit for AntwerpPrice will hope to recover in time given the winner of the Flanders Darts Trophy takes home a tidy £30,000.Should the 40-year-old make it to Antwerp, he’d be in the mix to win back-to-back PDC European Tour events. Price was the last man standing at the last tournament on the European Tour calendar as he took out the Baltic Sea Darts Open in July thanks to a 8-3 win over Gary Anderson in the final. If Price repeats his heroics from Germany, it would mark the first time in nearly two-and-a-half years he has won back-to-back events on the European circuit. There won’t be much of a let-up for Price or any other of the PDC’s big names as the events are set to come thick and fast following the action in Antwerp. After the Flanders Darts Trophy, the field will converge in Prague for the Czech Darts Open which begins on September 7.GettyPrice has been in solid form this year having reached the semi-finals at six out of the seven World Series events[/caption]Price and the rest of the travelling superstars on the World Series tour then take part in the World Series of Darts Finals in the Netherlands, beginning September 12.It is an event Price knows well given he emerged victorious in 2020 and 2022.Following the World Series Finals, it’s back to the action on the European Tour for the Hungarian Darts Trophy and Swiss Darts Trophy, which commence on September 19 and September 26 respectively.
