This is the latest permit to be filed as Disney World works on transforming the park’s DinoLand U.S.A. area into a new South American-inspired hub.The new permit lists Balfour Beatty Construction, a company that has a long history with Disney. Exact details are unknown, though the scope of the work is listed as “General Construction and Building Infrastructure and Systems Enhancements.” The permit has a 12-month expiration window.Half of DinoLand closed in January, with the other half set to close next year. Mostly everything in this area will be demolished in the coming months, aside from a few locations and DINOSAUR itself. The prehistoric joyride through time will stay put, though it will get a rather large makeover. Disney plans to renovate the attraction into a ride based on Indiana Jones, a fitting change considering DINOSAUR itself was a copy of Indiana Jones Adventure at Disneyland.Credit: DisneyRelated: Disney Surprises Fans With Fresh New Perks for All Disney+ SubscribersDINOSAUR opened alongside Disney’s Animal Kingdom theme park in 1998, though the ferocious thrill ride went by a different name: Countdown to Extinction. This iteration of the ride is almost the exact same as the one guests will find today, albeit with some slight audio and script differences. This version didn’t last long, with Disney deciding to tie the attraction to the company’s recently released animated film of the same name in 2000.The rest is quite literally history, with DINOSAUR offering brave riders the chance to travel back in time and come face to face with some incredibly realistic dinosaur animatronics for over two decades.DINOSAUR as it stands now will permanently close in 2026 to make way for Tropical Americas, the latest expansion coming to Animal Kingdom. While the park does feature a few other intense attractions, namely Avatar Flight of Passage and Expedition Everest, nothing at Walt Disney World, save for Magic Kingdom’s ill-fated Alien Encounter attraction, compares to the intensity and scare factor found within DINOSAUR.DINOSAUR will leave a dino-sized hole in the hearts of many fans and guests alike, though what’s on the horizon is very exciting. Will you miss DINOSAUR?The post Disney Signals End of 27-Year-Old Florida Attraction in Latest Update appeared first on Inside the Magic.
