MSU Office of Public Relations on Friday said, “MSU Baroda has taken a proactive decision to ensure that there will be no shortage of teachers in the academic year 2025–26 (Express File/Bhupendra Rana)In a first, the Executive Council of Maharaja Sayajirao University (MSU) Baroda has granted powers to the department heads to appoint visiting lecturers without seeking approval. The decision, according to the authorities, has been taken to ensure that vacant posts of temporary professors, lecturers and teaching assistants do not lead to a shortage of teaching staff in the ongoing academic session.MSU Office of Public Relations on Friday said, “MSU Baroda has taken a proactive decision to ensure that there will be no shortage of teachers in the academic year 2025–26. Despite the University’s extensive efforts to fill vacant posts of temporary assistant professor, temporary lecturer, and temporary teaching assistant through advertisements in April 2025, the Selection Committee could not recommend suitable candidates for several positions… In view of this and keeping in mind the academic interests of the students, the Executive Council resolved last month to approve the appointment of visiting faculty against such vacancies… A formal approval has been given to ensure immediate implementation.”MSU said that it has been resolved by the Executive Council that in case a temporary appointee such as a temporary assistant professor or a temporary teaching assistant resigns or leaves mid-term, a visiting faculty will be appointed immediately to ensure uninterrupted classes. The MSU has also resolved a major impediment faced by faculty and department heads in finding domain experts to become visiting faculty — the payment cap of Rs 15,000 per month.MSU said, “It has been decided to remove the monthly salary ceiling of ₹15,000. This cap will not be applicable under this arrangement. The visiting faculty will be entitled to ₹550 per lecture as honorarium and can engage in up to 18 lectures per week, spread across four weeks in a month. This comes to an approximate remuneration of ₹39,600 per month.”The university has also resolved that the visiting faculty will undertake academic, examination, and allied responsibilities as assigned by them. “This timely step reflects the University’s commitment to quality education and the uninterrupted academic growth of its students. By providing flexibility and fair remuneration, the University has created a robust mechanism to ensure teaching requirements are fully met,” MSU said.Stay updated with the latest - Click here to follow us on Instagram© The Indian Express Pvt LtdTags:Maharaja Sayajirao University
