The Karnataka Souharda Cooperative (Amendment) Bill 2025, which had been defeated in the Legislative Council on Wednesday embarrassing the Congress Government, was cleared in the Council on Friday.The BJP and the JD(S) raised concerns and opposition to the amendment in the Bill that proposed that cooperative societies maintain statutory liquid ratio of 20% and that designated cooperative societies as ‘statutory liquid assets’, among others.However, the Bill was approved again in the Legislative Assembly and returned to the Council on Thursday. Law and Parliamentary Affairs Minister H.K. Patil placed the Bill again before the Council on Friday and Chairman Basavaraj Horatti announced that the Bill had been accepted.Published - August 23, 2025 12:59 am IST
