“The requirement for experts in various fields would continue despite the level of automation achieved, because of the socio-politico-economic construct that we have,” Palanivel Thiaga Rajan , Minister for IT and Digital Services, said here on Friday.Speaking at the launch of MakeGPT, an AI-powered platform that enables creation of Internet of Things (IoT) systems using natural language prompts, at the IIT Madras Research Park, Mr. Thiaga Rajan said automation takes care of execution while responsibility, ethics, compliance, validation were all societal constructs and these roles would continue to evolve and “we’d continue to require certain number of people in the system”. Giving an example, he said that using AI-based machines for diagnostics would anyway require a certified radiologist to sign off on the final diagnosis.Speaking on the product, he said that it should be a democratising technology that brings arts and science students on par with engineering students in terms of creating products.MakeGPT is a product developed by Kochadai Technology Solutions, a start up incubated within IIT Madras Research Park, which allows users to describe their project ideas in plain language and it automatically generates complete working IoT solutions.Nanu Swamy, Founder and CEO, Kochadai Technology Solutions, said that the company has also introduced a kit that includes 60 components such as sensors, communication tools, and actuators that will be sold to interested people. Once the prompt is received, the product would generate the complete solution following which the prototype would be 3D printed either at the company’s facility or through vendors.Naveena Swamy, Founder, Kochadai Technology Solutions, Andy Palanisamy, Co-founder and CEO, Criativo Global, and Natarajan Malupillai, Group CEO, IIT Madras Research Park, also spoke at the event.Published - August 23, 2025 12:51 am IST
