(AP Photo)Israel has faced global condemnation over its strikes on the biggest hospital in southern Gaza, which has killed at least 22 people including health workers, emergency response crews and five journalists. It has been reported that it was a “double tap” by Israeli forces, a dual strike at a gap of about nine-ten minutes but a CNN report has now claimed that a third strike was carried out by Israeli military on the hospital. The attack on the Nasser Hospital in southern Gaza came around 10am (local time) on Monday when a balcony of the hospital was struck with reportedly a tank shell, killing a Reuters news agency cameraperson and others.About 10 minutes later, when rescue workers and other journalists arrived and were attending to the victims, another strike hit the hospital, a tactic known as a “double tap.”CNN analysis of new footage shows the “double-tap” attack on Gaza’s Nasser Hospital was in fact three strikes. The first shell hit at 10:08 a.m., killing Reuters cameraman Hussam Al-Masri. These second and third strikes which hit the Nasser Hospital at a gap of about 10 minutes are said to be most fatal. As per the international humanitarian law, intentionally attacking rescue workers, journalists and other civilians is considered a war crime. After facing condemnation from across the world, Israel Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu admitted that the incident was a “tragic mishap.”However, the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) defended the attack on Tuesday and said that “six terrorists” had been killed in the strike at the Nasser Hospital. The IDF said that the strike was directed at a “camera that was positioned by Hamas.” IDF added that it is conducting an inquiry to probe “several gaps” in its understanding of what happened. Defending the Israeli military, the IDF said it “doesn’t intentionally target civilians.”Israel’s UN Ambassador Danny Danon said on Wednesday that they are looking into the details of the incident and will have more information about it in the next few days.(with inputs from CNN)Stay updated with the latest - Click here to follow us on Instagram© IE Online Media Services Pvt LtdTags:Israel Gaza war
