Police said when Khot was speaking to media persons at the Dwarkadhish Gaushala in Bhekrai Nagar, some gaurakshaks urged him to listen to their concerns (Screengrab from Facebook Live/Sadabhau Khot)Prominent farmer leader and Member of Legislative Council (MLC) Sadabhau Khot staged a protest at the Sinhagad police station in Pune, claiming he was manhandled at the Dwarkadhish Gaushala in Bhekrai Nagar near Fursungi on Monday.Police said some cattle (21 buffaloes) seized in an offence registered at the Sinhagad police station were kept at the Dwarkadhish Gaushala in Bhekrai Nagar.According to Khot, the court had ordered that the cattle be returned to the farmers. But, when the farmers went to the Gaushala, they found no buffaloes there, he said.“I went to the Gaushala along with the farmers. The police personnel asked them to do the panchama in front of us. The Gaushala owner was absent. Some people gathered and started manhandling us. Police had to intervene… I am a Hindu, a Maratha and we consider cow as our mother. We respect the genuine Gaurakshaks…,” said Khot.Police said when Khot was speaking to media persons at the Dwarkadhish Gaushala in Bhekrai Nagar, some gaurakshaks urged him to listen to their concerns.When Khot was leaving the spot, a tense situation was observed as the Gaurakshaks insisted him to hear them. Police said they intervened immediately to prevent a law and order situation. There was no manhandling or scuffle at the Gaushala, police said.Meanwhile, Khot and the farmers who visited the Gaushala, later reached Sinhagad police station. They staged a protest at the police station and expressed their concern over the alleged absence of their cattle.Story continues below this adKhot gave a letter to Deputy Commissioner of Police (zone 3) Sambhaji Kadam saying, “There is a law that bans cow slaughter in the state. But some self styled Gaurakshaks are involved in wrongful actions and are harassing farmers.”Khot asked the police to call a meeting on the issue. He said he would also be writing to CM Devendra Fadnavis on this matter.Khot has raised the issue of an additional burden faced by poor farmers in feeding unproductive cows and bulls.
