Sandhu, who had won the last week’s Mysuru Open, won his fourth PGTI title of the year (Express Photo)Chandigarh golfer 28-year-old Yuvraj Sandhu won his second consecutive title in as many weeks as he won the Rs 1 crore PGTI Players Championship played at Clovers Greens Golf Course near Hosur in Tamil Nadu on Friday. Sandhu, who had won the last week’s Mysuru Open, won his fourth PGTI title of the year.The Chandigarh golfer carded a final round score of seven-under-65 to finish with an overall score of 28-under-265 to be tied with Udayan Man before Sandhu edged out Mane in play-off to win the title. Sandhu and Mane played for four play-off holes on the 18th hole to be tied after each hole before Sandhu prevailed over the fifth play-off hole with a birdie to win the title.“I would like to thank my team consisting of my mental coach, my physical trainer, my coach Gurbaaz Mann who is here today and my family. They’ve all contributed a lot in making me believe that I can be the best. During the playoff, I kept telling myself that this is what you live for, train for and dream of. That kept me going. Then on the decisive playoff hole, the yardage of 104 yards from the tee was just perfect for me. In practice, I have often holed my shots from that distance. So, I was quite confident on the tee and visualised my shot well that helped me get it close to the flag,” Sandhu said after the title win.Sandhu, who had played a first round score of nine-under-63, had carded a second round score of five-under-67 before he carded a third round score of 11-under-61. The final round saw Sandhu sinking nine birdies along with three bogeys to post a final round score of seven-under-65. Mane, who had carded scores of five-under-67, seven-under-65 and ten-under-62 in the first, second and third round respectively, carded a final round score of ten-under-62 to be tied with Sandhu after the regulation 18 holes. After the win in the play-offs, Sandhu also talked about his friendship with Mane and hoped that Mane too wins a PGTI title soon.“It was fun playing the leader group with Mane as we have known each other for so long. In my first year at the international level, Udayan and Samarth (Dwivedi) helped me a lot. Our friendship goes beyond golf. Today Udayan kept me on my toes. He’s playing really well and I’m sure a win is around the corner for him,” said Sandhu.With the win, which saw him pocket a prize money of Rs 15 lakh, Sandhu became the leader in the PGTI order of Merit with total earnings of Rs 88,67,200 this season on the PGTI circuit. It was also Sandhu’s 13th professional win in his career. Sandhu credited his win to his driving in the four rounds this week. “My driving has stood out these two weeks. I worked a lot with my coach Gurbaaz Mann on my driving during the off-season. I used to hit 200 balls a day with my driver till my shoulder would actually start paining.
