Karnataka: 3 convicted of murder in Bhadravathi, 2 get death penalty

A court in Bhadravathi on Saturday convicted three people accused of murder, while pronouncing the death penalty for two of them.The convicted have been identified as Lakshmi, a government school teacher in Bhadravathi; and Krishnamurthy and Shivaraju of Jannapura in Bhadravathi. The court sentenced Lakshmi and Krishnamurthy to the death penalty for committing the murder of Imtiyaz Ahmed, the husband of Lakshmi.Imtiyaz, also a teacher, married Lakshmi in 2011 in Kalaburagi. Lakshmi murdered her husband with the help of Krishnamurthy on July 7, 2016. Later, the duo disposed of the body into the Bhadra River with the help of Shivaraju, who has been sentenced to seven years of imprisonment for his involvement in the crime.The New Town Police in Bhadravathi had registered a case based on the complaint filed by Aijaz Ahmed, the brother of the victim.Police Inspectors Prabhu B. Surin and Chandrashekhar T.K. conducted the investigation and filed a charge sheet. Fourth Additional District and Sessions Judge Indira Mailswamy Chettiyar pronounced the judgement.
