India’s employability score up by over several points in past decade: Union Minister of State for Education

India’s employability score for graduates has leapt to 54.81 % in 2024, up by several points in the past decade, according to Sukanta Majumdar, Union Minister of State for Education and Development of Northeast Region.Speaking at the 24th Graduation Day of Rajalakshmi Engineering College on Saturday, Mr. Majumdar said the rise in the employability score was made possible by focussed interventions in skill development, digital education and reforms, such as the National Education Policy, 2020. “This tells us something very clearly – with every passing year, India’s youth are becoming more capable of competing on the global stage,” he added.Detailing the Union government’s thrust in sectors, such as semiconductors, renewable energy, electric vehicles, defence manufacturing, and Artificial Intelligence, the Minister said that the graduates would be entering a new phase of life with many opportunities but should not lose sight of their responsibilities towards society.Vinod K. Dasari, chairman, Vinita Hospital, urged the students to pursue knowledge while not shying away from learning from the experiences of elders. Thangam Meghanathan, chairperson, and Abhay Meghanathan, vice-chairman, were present.As many as 1,720 students, including 20 gold medalists and 153 post-graduates, received their degrees.Published - August 23, 2025 11:53 pm IST
