Sales of the Switch 2 are significantly outpacing sales of the original Switch in the US over similar periods of time. That's according to new data from research firm Circana, which published its latest monthly sales report today, August 27. The data shows that the Switch 2 has now exceeded 2 million units sold in the US since launch in early June. That's 75% ahead of the pace of sales for the original Switch back in 2017. Unsurprisingly, the Switch 2 helped propel total US gaming hardware sales in July, which surged by 21%, from $317 million in July 2024 to $384 million in July 2025. The Switch 2 was the only major console platform that posted growth in July 2025 in the US, with PS5 dollar sales dropping by 47%, Xbox Series X|S sales sliding by 69%, and original Switch spending declining by 52%.
