I remember being in a thrift store parking lot and seeing a woman walking around with no shoes and socks (in the cold) my dumba self thought, poor lady, but maybe we can at least help with shoes from the thrift. I approached her, offering to take her in the store and purchase shoes and socks for her. immediately I realized that was a mistake as her not wearing shoes clearly was a result of severe mental illness and or substance abuse.
