(Express photo/ representative)The cost of pursuing a medical degree in Haryana can be anything between Rs 4.22 lakh at government colleges and to a jaw-dropping Rs 1.25 crore at private institutions under deemed universities.While government and government-aided medical colleges offer more affordable options, students opting for private or deemed universities face significantly higher tuition fees, often increasing annually.Haryana health minister Arti Singh Rao revealed these figures in the reply tabled to the question raised by Indian National Congress’ Jhajjar MLA Geeta Bhukkal in the ongoing monsoon session of Haryana Vidhan Sabha.Bhukkal had sought details from the government on – “a) the total number of Medical Colleges in State together with the district-wise details of Private and Government Colleges; b) the number of seats sanctioned in such Government and Private Colleges separately; c) the number of seats reserved for SC/Handicapped/EWS categories in MBBS and Post Graduate degree courses in above said colleges; and d) the annual fee structure for MBBS in Government Colleges and Private Colleges?”In her reply, Rao said that six government medical colleges (Post Graduate Institute of Medical Sciences, Rohtak; Shaheed Hasan Khan Mewati Government Medical College, Nuh; Bhagat Phool Singh Government Medical College for Women, Sonipat, Kalpana Chawla Government Medical College, Karnal; and Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Government Medical College, Faridabad) has a fee structure (for MBBS course) of Rs 4,22,910 (Rs 4.22 lakh) for five years, while the ESIC medical college, Faridabad has Rs. 1 lakh per annum (college tuition fee).The government aided medical college (Maharaja Agrasen Medical College, Agroha) has a college tuition fee structure of Rs 8.1 lakh (for five years course).Among the private medical colleges affiliated to Pt Bhagwat Dayal Sharma University of Health, Rohtak (NC medical college, Panipat; Adesh medical college, Kurukshetra; and world college of medical sciences and research, Jhajjar) – the tuition fee including development charges is Rs 12 lakh with annual increase of 7.5%.For medical colleges running under private universities (including SGT Medical College, Gurugram has a fee of Rs 22.5 lakh per annum course fee); Al-Falah medical college, Faridabad – Rs 16.375 lakh per year; and Maharishi Markandeshwar College of Medical Science and Research, Sadhopur, Ambala – has a fee structure of tuitiion fee of Rs 17 lakh with 10 per cent annual increase per annum.Story continues below this adThe most-expensive course fees are of private medical colleges under deemed universities. These include MMUMSR, Mullana, Ambala that has a fees of Rs 18 lakh annual with 10 per cent increment every year and Amrita School of Medicine, Faridabad that charges a fee of Rs 25 lakh per year tuition fee, which turns out to be Rs 1.25 crore for 4.5 years.There are a total of 15 medical colleges functional across Haryana that include six government, one government aided and eight private medical colleges. The colleges, in total, have sanctioned 2185 MBBS seats (832-government medical colleges, 100-government aided medical colleges and 1250 – private medical colleges). The sanctioned PG seats (MD/MS) are 872 (408 – government medical colleges, 52-government-aided medical colleges and 412-private medical colleges).For MBBS, the seats have also been reserved for SC/handicapped/EWS categories in MBBS (state quota seats) and post graduate degree courses.
