Emma Raducanu’s days chopping and changing coaches could be over after describing Francisco Roig as a ‘great fit’.The Brit is preparing to take on Japanese player Ena Shibahara in the first round of the US Open on Sunday. Raducanu is raring to go ahead of the US openIt was at Flushing Meadows where Raducanu burst onto the scene in 2021.But since then, she has struggled to meet the meteoric expectations set by that triumph, binning off seven coaches in the last four years as part of a wider battle for consistency. Ex-doubles star Roig has enjoyed a very successful coaching career, working with Rafael Nadal for all 22 of his Grand Slam titles.Speaking to Sky Sports ahead of the US Open, Raducanu spoke glowingly of her new partnership with the Spaniard.She said: “I think we get on really well. I think we fit great.“He is so experienced, and we have been doing a lot of hours on the practice court, which I think has been helping me, and we both like spending time on the court, which is a good thing.“But he also knows when to have fun and switch off, and that’s important.“It is not just constant seriousness. We work, but we also laugh.”What else did Raducanu say? She said: “I think it would be so fun if all the Slams got involved and did something similar, even if it was not the exact same format.“I think it was a huge success. I think so many fans got involved, so many people watched and tuned in. It got a lot of attention.“I think it was a great idea. And, yeah, I had a lot of fun on the court playing with Carlos.”Will Roig get the best out of Raducanu?There have been signs of improvement since the Spaniard joined Raducanu’s team.He only came aboard in August, and the Brit narrowly lost out to Aryna Sabalenka at the Cincinnati Open.It went to a deciding set, and the world No.1 required a tiebreaker to win.
