Harsimrat Kaur Badal, MP from Bathinda of Shiromani Akali Dal in Punjab, has written a letter to India's Foreign Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar, appealing for immediate intervention in the crisis arising regarding Punjabi truck drivers in America. At the same time, Harjinder Singh has been produced in the US court for the first time and the court refused to grant him bail. Harsimrat Badal said that after the recent road accident involving a Punjabi truck driver, the US government has frozen the work visas of all foreign truck drivers. Harsimrat Kaur demanded that the Indian government should take initiative to withdraw this order by talking to the US administration. It would be unfair to punish the entire community for the mistake of one driver. The Punjabi community has built and managed the trucking logistics and network of America for decades. In such a situation, taking collective action against them would be discriminatory. Harsimrat also urged the External Affairs Minister to immediately provide consular access to the arrested Punjabi driver Harjinder Singh, who has been charged with three vehicular manslaughter cases, so that his case could be fought properly.
