Responding to the news article ‘Botched up drain works inundate colonies in Sainikpuri’ published in The Hindu on August 21, Zonal Commissioner of LB Nagar, Hemanta Keshav Patil inspected the Kapra lake in Sainikpuri and issued instructions for temporary relief. On Thursday, Mr. Patil visited the location along with engineering officials, and took stock of the situation. He interacted with the local residents, and heard their grievances. He made a sketch of the probable permanent solution to the issue, and instructed the engineering officials to take up the works soon. As a temporary relief measure, he asked them to close the rock-filled dam near the lake, and allow the water to be filtered there before it enters the lake. The article brought to light the inundation of the low-lying colonies during heavy rains, due to backing up of flood water in the dysfunctional drain. It also highlighted the lake pollution due to a temporary trench dug up in an attempt to provide relief to the colonies.Published - August 22, 2025 12:50 pm IST
