On this day in 1941, L-Innu Malti was officially recognised as Malta’s anthem, a defining moment in Maltese identity.Written by Dun Karm Psaila and composed by Prof Robert Samut, it began as a hymn for school children but quickly became something much bigger: a national voice in the Maltese language.Malta was still a British colony at the time, making this more than a cultural milestone, it was a powerful statement of who we were long before independence.By the time the Constitution formally made it the National Anthem in 1964, the people had already made it their own.Today, the legacy continues, with 27th December now dedicated to Malta’s National Anthem, an initiative started by Maltese personality Valentina Rossi.Did you know this?•
