Her relatives lodged a complaint alleging that false accusations of gold theft had caused severe mental trauma.According to the family, a neighbouring youth and his family, who lived near her husband’s house, had levelled the theft allegation against her. Jaseela had earlier been questioned by the Adoor police in connection with the complaint. However, no evidence substantiating the allegation was found and she was let off, a relative said. The family has also raised serious allegations against the Vidyanagar police station, claiming that when she was summoned for questioning, no women officers were present and that she faced severe mental harassment during the process. They have demanded a comprehensive inquiry into the alleged lapses on the part of the police. The police said a case of unnatural death had been registered and an investigation was under way. A magistrate reportedly recorded Jaseela’s confidential statement while she was undergoing treatment at the hospital. Officials said all circumstances surrounding the allegation, including claims of mental harassment, would be examined in detail.Relatives further said that before the incident, Jaseela had recorded a video message asserting her innocence and alleging that she had been humiliated.
