NHRC registers case after infant’s death in ‘caste assault' at Nagarkurnool temple

The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has registered a case over the death of a two-month-old infant following an assault at Kummera village in Nagarkurnool district.According to the complaint filed by Hyderabad-based lawyer Rama Rao, the incident was reported on February 21 during the Mallanna Jatara when Chakali Chandrakala, her son Sakali Ganesh, daughter-in-law Mounika and other family members visited the temple for darshan. The family, belonging to an OBC community, alleged that they were stopped at the entrance and denied entry.When they protested, organisers, including Sarpanch Tukaram Reddy, Undyala Srinivas Reddy, Srikant Reddy, Satish Reddy Kannireddy and Kufender Reddy, hurled caste-based abuses and assaulted them.During the scuffle, the infant in the family’s care was allegedly kicked and fell, sustaining critical injuries.
