KISII, Kenya, Feb 23 – Tension gripped Kisii town on Monday as armed goons reportedly stormed the streets to disrupt a planned opposition rally at the Capital Roundabout.The group, some armed with machetes, moved from street to street, prompting traders to shut down businesses amid fears of looting and violence.Security presence was heightened in parts of the town as uncertainty loomed over whether the rally would proceed as scheduled.Former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i is leading the opposition tour in the region.He is accompanied by key political figures including Kalonzo Musyoka, Rigathi Gachagua, Eugene Wamalwa and Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya.The opposition convoy began its three-day tour in Mulot, Bomet County, before proceeding through Ekerenyo in Nyamira County, Keroka and Keumbu, with a major rally scheduled in Kisii town.Hundreds of residents were expected to turn up to receive the leaders despite the heightened tension.
