In a move that could reshape Maltese football for years to come, Prime Minister Robert Abela has announced that Government will propose giving Valletta FC a site in Pembroke to build a brand-new Football Campus. The proposed campus is being pitched as way more than just training grounds. Think a full-on sports and community hub, aimed at boosting youth development, women’s football, education initiatives and inclusive community programmes. If it goes ahead, thousands are expected to benefit, from young players and schools to grassroots groups and local families. With over 27,000 supporters, Valletta FC remains Malta’s most followed club, and this project is part of a wider push to modernise the island’s sports infrastructure. The plan is also being framed as a boost for the surrounding area, with promises of improved liveability and facilities.Robert Abela said the move honours a commitment made to the club, while Valletta FC president Claudio Grech called it a long-awaited breakthrough that could help transform the club into a regional football powerhouse. The proposal now heads into the parliamentary process, with Valletta FC set to continue talks with stakeholders along the way.If this campus becomes reality, it could be a game-changer for Maltese football.
