normalnormalnormal FSC India, in collaboration with Kuantum Papers Ltd, organised a Capacity Building Workshop for Tree Growers and Wood-based Industries at Chandigarh to strengthen market linkages, traceability, and sustainable wood value chains across Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh and West Uttar Pradesh. The workshop was attended by progressive tree growers, paper companies, plywood and panel industries, forest officials, NGOs and sustainability stakeholders.Pavan Khaitan, Vice Chairman & MD, Kuantum Papers Ltd. lauded this effort made by FSC India in bringing all the stakeholders together and providing a platform for knowledge sharing. He emphasized the need to increase production and productivity of wood, policy rationalization for easy felling and transport, R&D and long-term association of tree growers and wood-based industries.Pavan Khaitan said, “Agroforestry must be seen as a national development strategy, not just a crop choice. If farmers see trees as bankable assets, industry treats sustainability as a strategic priority, and government supports enabling policies and digital traceability, India can bridge the growing wood demand-supply gap while delivering on its climate commitments”.The speakers from forest departments of Haryana and Punjab explained the wood production scenario in the states and suggested various ways to promote wood development. They also highlighted the importance of Trees Outside Forests (TOF), agroforestry, and responsible sourcing in building resilient and inclusive wood value chains. Dr. Suresh Gairola, Country Director, FSC India emphasised the need for credible, traceable, and sustainable supply chains to support both industry and tree growers. He also presented the FSC tools for sustainable management of natural forests and plantation with special focus on smallholders.The workshop provided an opportunity for the tree growers and wood-based industries to share their experiences and suggestions for strengthening the mechanism for long -term association of the stakeholders.
