NAIROBI, Kenya, Feb 23 — The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has issued a clarification following the circulation of what it termed misleading information on social media regarding the death of Corporal James Muiruri Mburu, an officer attached to DCI Kajiado North Sub-County.In a statement, the agency expressed deep regret over the tragic and untimely passing of Corporal Muiruri, who died on February 21, 2026.The DCI conveyed condolences to his family, friends, and colleagues, describing him as a dedicated officer whose loss has deeply affected the investigative unit.“We mourn with you the loss of a beloved son, colleague, and dedicated officer. May God grant you strength, comfort, and abundant grace to carry you through this painful time,” the DCI said.The agency moved to correct what it described as false and inaccurate reports circulating online.Contrary to claims that Corporal Muiruri died at DCI Headquarters, the Directorate clarified that the incident occurred in Ngong, Kajiado County.“We wish to clarify certain inaccuracies circulating on social media. Corporal Muiruri did not pass away at DCI Headquarters,” the statement said.UnresponsiveAccording to investigators, the officer was found unresponsive in his kitchen garden by a neighbour’s domestic worker, who immediately raised the alarm.Three fellow officers responded and rushed him to Ngong Level IV Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.The DCI further clarified that the body was discovered by the neighbour’s house help — not family members, as earlier reported.The incident was formally recorded at Ngong Police Station under Occurrence Book (OB) number 38/21/02/2026.Preliminary investigations conducted by Crime Scene Investigation (CSI) officers, in collaboration with the Kenya Power and Lighting Company (KPLC), revealed the presence of a live electrical wire beneath the garden surface.Investigators believe the officer may have been electrocuted while tilling the land.The DCI confirmed that an inquiry is ongoing, with a postmortem examination expected to determine the exact cause of death.
