Sandro Grech, the young father who captured the hearts of many Maltese during his fight against a rare and aggressive cancer, has passed away.The news was confirmed in recent hours by his brother Roberto, who shared a heartfelt message on Facebook announcing that Sandro had lost his battle with cancer.“He fought with incredible strength and courage until the very end,” he wrote.Sandro had been battling an extremely rare and aggressive form of leukaemia since January 2023. Over the past three years, he underwent multiple intensive treatments, including chemotherapy and two bone marrow transplants donated by his brother.In mid-January, he travelled to Beijing to begin a specialised clinical trial known as CD7 CAR-T therapy, his final hope for survival. In the weeks leading up to the trip, thousands of people across Malta rallied together to help him raise €500,000 to access the treatment abroad.Tributes have continued to pour in, with members of the St Albert the Great College community, including the rector and school leadership, offering condolences to his family.Funeral details are expected to be announced in the coming days.Lovin Malta extends its condolences to Sandro’s family and friends•
