TV presenter and podcast host Ricky Caruana has spoken out over the weekend, saying he believes the Nationalist Party may be avoiding appearances on his podcast after several planned interviews didn’t go ahead. In a series of videos, Caruana suggested there might be a pattern, even reposting an older clip of PN leader Alex Borg talking about having “open arms” for everyone.Caruana said he first reached out to the party back in January, shortly after Borg was elected leader, contacting PN communications official Nathaniel Attard. He said he didn’t get a confirmation at the time but assumed Borg may have simply been busy, especially as he went on to give multiple interviews across different media outlets. In the weeks that followed, Caruana said he also invited Shadow Minister Tony Bezzina onto the podcast, but the appearance wasn’t approved by the party’s communications team and ultimately didn’t materialise. The situation escalated more recently when an episode with Shadow Minister Janice Chetcuti appeared to be confirmed. According to Caruana, the two were in contact on the day and he had even sent her the studio location. However, he says she later called him while on her way to say the appearance couldn’t go ahead as it hadn’t been approved within party structures.Speaking to Lovin Malta, Caruana said he still hasn’t been given a clear reason why PN figures haven’t appeared on the podcast. He added that he doesn’t believe the party has boycotted his TV programme Ricky Debates, but remains unsure why the podcast seems to be a different story.Lovin Malta reached out to the PN for clarification. In response, the party’s communications office said that appearances by MPs and candidates are decided on a case-by-case basis, and that invitations should be sent through its communications team — a practice it said applies to podcasts as well.Caruana, meanwhile, said he has no issue with the party and remains open to hosting PN representatives, saying they are welcome to come on and share their side.Do you think PN is avoiding Ricky’s podcast?•
