Under the revamped goods and services tax framework, which received the GST Council's nod on Wednesday, compensation cess credits are set to lapse from Sept. 22, and automobile dealers may not be allowed to use or recover accumulated cess credits, sources told NDTV Profit.With auto dealers staring at a potential Rs 2,000-3,000 crore loss, they will meet the finance ministry to raise the issue, according to people in the know.Notably, a new flat 40% GST on luxury cars will be replacing the earlier 28% GST and additional 17–22% cess.This move has put the pre-festive inventory at risk, with dealers holding 55 days of stock.(This is a developing story).
