(File photo)The Maharashtra government Thursday revised the date of the Eid-e-Milad holiday in Mumbai city and suburban districts. The holiday, which was earlier declared for Friday (September 5), will now be observed on Monday (September 8).“The change was made after Muslim community members in Mumbai decided to hold Eid processions on Monday,” said a government source.Since Anant Chaturdashi, the last day of Ganpati immersions, will be celebrated on Saturday (September 6), community leaders suggested postponing the Eid processions to avoid an overlap of the two major festivals. The state government accepted this proposal and issued a fresh circular.According to the General Administration Department (GAD), the revised holiday date is applicable only to Mumbai city and suburban districts. In the rest of Maharashtra, however, September 5 will continue to be a public holiday for Eid-e-Milad.The circular also clarified that all government offices in Mumbai and its suburbs will function normally on Friday. Schools and colleges in these districts are also expected to remain open on Friday, and will instead remain closed on Monday.Anant Chaturdashi processions draw huge crowds for Ganesh idol immersions, requiring major civic and police deployment. Eid-e-Milad processions also attract thousands of participants. By spacing out the events, authorities hope to reduce pressure on the administration and allow both festivals to be celebrated peacefully.Stay updated with the latest - Click here to follow us on Instagram© The Indian Express Pvt LtdTags:Mumbai
