Naidu govt to set SPV for greenfield airport in Andhra Pradesh’s Amaravati

(file photo)The Andhra Pradesh government has decided to set up a Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) for development of a greenfield airport in the Amaravati capital region, officials said.The approval for setting up the SPV was given in the 52nd Capital Region Development Authority (CRDA) meeting chaired by Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu Tuesday. The SPV will also develop a smart industrial zone, a bridge across river Krishna, sports city, a river front, ropeways, and inner ring road in Amaravati capital area.The chief minister also directed the officials to bring a bio design project under the SPV to develop a health city in Amaravati capital.“Experts of seven countries are ready to become part of a bio design project. A statue of actor and Telugu Desam Party founder N T Rama Rao will also be erected in the Amaravati capital region,” Naidu said.The CRDA also approved the tenders for providing infrastructure at the government buildings complex in Amaravati. As part of this, nearly 59 km-long roads are to be developed which will connect the various government complexes. The CRDA also approved issuing of a notification for urban designs and architectural guidelines in the capital region and approved land allotments for convention centres.The chief minister stressed the need for developing the sandbars on the Krishna river as tourist spots.According to sources, the chief minister advised officials to convince the farmers “to join the land pooling scheme voluntarily”.Story continues below this ad“The government may decide to go for land acquisition by giving notifications if some of the farmers decide not to join the land pooling scheme, but their land is required to take up development projects, ” a source quoted Naidu as saying. “We don’t want to inconvenience the farmers… They will benefit from land pooling rather than land acquisition”.Municipal Administration and Urban Development Minister P Narayana said that about 1,800 acres of land was “required immediately” to take up some of the projects, adding that CRDA has been given permission to acquire it either through land pooling or acquisition.He also said that the new CRDA headquarters at Rayapudi is ready for inauguration. “Till now, everyone had to travel to Vijayawada where the CRDA office is located.
