The Basava Samskriti Abhiyan, a programme with a chariot procession organised to spread the principles of Basaveshwara and other saints of the 12th century, stressed humanity and brotherhood, and primarily urged the spread of the principles of Basaveshwara and other saints.The programme was held at Patil Convention Hall in Yadgir, under the banner of Sahamatha Vedike, under the chairmanship of Shanta Veeramurugharajendra Mahaswamiji of Khasa Mutt, Gurmitkal.The procession was carried out on the main streets in the city of Yadgir.Basavalinga Pattaddevaru, President of Lingayat Mathadhipathigala Okkoota, has said that the caste system is dividing people. But the principles of Sharanas would sew up. The programme of Basava Samskriti Abhiyan has aimed to join the people with such principles.Hulikal Nataraj, founder and chairman of State Scientific Research Parishat, appealed to the people, particularly students, not to be influenced by superstitions. The superstitions still exist despite the country moving forward in all sectors, he opined.Vishwaradhya Satyampet, founder president of Basava Marga Pratishtan, answered the questions of students and other participants about Sharanas. “Politicians should realise whether they follow their promises made before the election,” Siddu Yapalaparvi, the chief of the Vachana Kannada channel, has said.He was delivering a keynote on the ‘Matembudu Jyothirlinga’ (words are like promises) subject during the second session.Referring to a Vachana of Allamaprabhu, who is one among the saints of the 12th century, Prof. Yapalaparvi said that the Sharanas had followed what they promised. All Vachanas and principles of saints are relevant even now today.He pointed out that most of the Lingayats are still in confusion about whether they belong to only the Lingayat or the Veerashaiva Lingayat. But the research claimed that Lingayat was an independent religion. Therefore, every Lingayat should understand the reality and existence of Sharanas’ principles, he appealed.CMC chairman Lalita Anapur, who presided over the second session, praised Basavanna for giving an opportunity for women that allowed them to join with all Sharanas. Because of such an opportunity, women like Akkamahadevi wrote many Vachanas with the reality of human lives and guided the society.Sri Murugharajendra Mahaswamiji delivered the valedictory speech and said that Basava Samskriti Abhiyan has included all community people to ensure that the equality taught by the Sharanas was followed. He thanked all organisations for extending support for organising a successful event.Taralabalu seer Panditaradhya Swamiji addressed the event and shared Sharanas principles and advised the gathering to follow what promises were made.A stage drama – ‘Jangamadedege’ by the team of Shivasanchara Sanehalli – was performed.Various organisations, including pro-Kannada farmers, Krishi Kooli Karamikara Sanghatane, educational institutions, Jagatika Lingayat Mahasabha, Veerashaiva Lingayat Mahasabha, Tanzamin Muslimin Baitulmal, and Jamat e Islami Hind, extended support for holding the programme.Various seers of different mutts, Superintendent of Police Pruthvik Shankar, Bhimanna Meti, Gundappa Kalaburagi and others were present.Published - September 05, 2025 06:28 pm IST
