Port authorities stated that the additions will enable quicker movement of cargo between ships and the hinterland.Connectivity has been enhanced through six dedicated rail sidings, facilitating direct connectivity to key freight corridors. The deep draft berths in BMCT are equipped to receive some of the largest container ships in the world, with a carrying capacity of up to 18,000 TEU. This, officials said, would enhance India’s competitiveness in international trade by allowing larger ships to directly call at the port.In addition to increased capacity, JNPA has also prioritised security and sustainability, port authorities stated. The gate complex of the terminal is fitted with eight automatic lanes combining weighbridges, paperless exit and entry systems, and radiation scanning. Renewable energy presently supplies 60 per cent of the terminal’s requirements, with plans to completely switch to green power in the next few years, they added.Stay updated with the latest - Click here to follow us on Instagram© The Indian Express Pvt Ltd
