Paul was among the five BJP MLAs who were suspended by Speaker Biman Banerjee for disrupting the proceedings of the House. Of the five, two – Shankar Ghosh and Bankim Ghosh – had fallen in the Assembly and were admitted to a hospital.“Paul underwent a CT scan, which revealed that she suffered a brain stroke. She is under the care of a senior neuro medicine specialist, and is being kept in the Critical Care Unit (CCU) for observation,” said a hospital staff member.Hospital sources said the brain stroke may have been caused by excessive pressure on her nerves.A senior BJP leader said, “Paul was not doing well for the past few days. She was advised against giving a speech in the Assembly on Thursday and was told to take rest. But she refused and gave a speech in the House. After that, during the chaos, she was present in the House. I think because of that immense pressure, she suffered a brain stroke.”Last month, the Asansol Dakshin MLA was admitted to the same hospital for a chest infection.Story continues below this ad(Anisha Ghosh is an intern at the Kolkata office of The Indian Express)Stay updated with the latest - Click here to follow us on Instagram© The Indian Express Pvt LtdTags:Bharatiya Janata PartyKolkata
