It brought a little smirk on my face,” he said.Chalmers looks back on the experience fondly now, yet his smile was quickly wiped when Mayweather threw the first punch in their bout two years ago.Being in the ring with Mayweather is one thing, but taking a punch from him is something else entirely, with a 59-year-old Tyson set to be in the same position soon.“He led me into a trap in the first round,” Chalmers explains, discussing the brilliance of his opponent.GettyChalmers, an ex-MMA fighter, makes his second bare-knuckle appearance in September[/caption]“We walked out, and I came out with my guard, and he was just [playing] with his hands.Mayweather’s precision ‘was unbelievable’ Chalmers says“So I thought, ‘Oh, it’s an exhibition. He just wants to play.’ I dropped my hands, and I went to touch his hand, and he just went f***ing crack and hit me straight in the eye.“I said, ‘You dirty b******. We’re in a fight now.’ But he properly let me into a false sense. “I thought he wasn’t taking it seriously.’ Then, as soon as he seen my hands up, he cracked me straight in the eye.“I wouldn’t say he was powerful. I wasn’t fearful of his power, but the precision was unbelievable.“He hit me with a body shot, I dropped my hand, and then he hit me on the head.Mayweather will return to the ring in 2026 to face former undisputed heavyweight champion TysonMike Tyson“I was like, ‘I’m gonna have to take another one to the head. I’m not taking another body shot — no way.’“Because the precision was just there, and I thought, ‘I’m not taking another one of the body — no chance.’”The bout wound up going the distance, with no official winner declared after all eight rounds.Chalmers is now just a matter of weeks away from entering the combat world once again. When is Chalmers fighting next?He faces former Love Island star Fincham, who is making his debut, under the banner of Conor McGregor‘s BKFC promotion on September 27.The card is headlined by the return of former IBF super-middleweight champion James DeGale, who takes on Matt Floyd in his first professional fight since losing to Chris Eubank Jr in February 2019.Chalmers goes into his bout with Fincham as the far more experienced competitor, having clocked a 5-2 professional MMA record since entering the sport in 2017.While he confirms ‘yes and no’ to learning from his experiences with Mayweather, the Geordie admits he might have given his former foe too much respect in the ring.“I feel like I was too respectful, far too respectful towards him, because of who he was,” he concluded.“It was an exhibition, wasn’t going on any records, and looking back now, I was far, far too respectful.“I’m not going to let that ruin what it was, but I just know looking back now, I could have given a lot, a lot more. “But like I say… It was a five-week turnaround, and I didn’t really have time to think about it. “I was on talkSPORT, I had Sky Sports at my house. Everything was such a whirlwind. We were trying to lose 12 kilos in five weeks.“And then before you know it, I was in there. I was just like, ‘Well, what the f*** is going on here? “I’m in the ring with Floyd Mayweather. It was a mad whirlwind of five weeks.”
