German football expert Raphael Honigstein thinks Bayern Munich and Harry Kane will have to make a decision over the striker’s future soon.Kane’s deal with the German giants expires in the summer of 2027, meaning Bayern either need to extend his contract or potentially risk losing him for nothing in two years. This will be Kane’s third and possibly final campaign in GermanyGettyThe 32-year-old joined Bayern in the summer of 2023 from Tottenham Hotspur in a deal worth an initial £82million.While with the Bavarians, he has won his first piece of major silverware in his career and has broken countless records. But with the arrival of Nicolas Jackson, it appears Bayern are planning for life without Kane.Jackson arrived in Munich from Chelsea on deadline day on an initial loan with obligation to buy after initially seeing the deal collapse. And Honigstein feels as if the idea is for Jackson to eventually replace Kane, smoothing a return to the Premier League for the England captain.Speaking exclusively to talkSPORT on Hawksbee and Jacobs, he said: “It’s no big secret that people in Germany don’t expect Harry Kane to see out his career at Bayern.“I think Bayern are braced for the possibility that he will leave slightly earlier than his contract, which runs until 2027.“One way or the other, he and the club need to take a view on this fairly soon.“They were pushing for somebody who can both be a backup and an understudy for Kane. They looked at [Benjamin] Sesko. They looked at [Nick] Woltemade – they ended up with Jackson, with an obligation to buy.“This suggests Bayern are aware of the possibility that Kane might go in a year or two.“But at the same time, he’s so good that anyone who comes in has to play around him.“There is absolutely no chance that Jackson will displace Kane. He will have to play alongside him, ahead of him or give Kane a rest in a game or two.“But he is very much there to be his eventual successor, but we are still quite far off that.”Kane has scored a tonne of goals for BayernGettyThe Champions League still evades KaneGettyWhat’s next for Kane? The summer transfer window wasn’t a successful one for Bayern. They managed to sign Jackson, Luis Diaz and Jonathan Tah, but there were no other first-team arrivals.Kane spoke ahead of the season about his concerns for the size of the squad, so the fact there was only one arrival after that, suggests he’s still likely to have concerns.Speaking ahead of thrashing RB Leipzig on opening night, Kane said: “It’s probably one of the smallest squads I’ve ever played in.“There’s still time until the transfer window closes and decisions could be made by [executive board member for sport] Max Eberl, [sporting director] Christoph [Freund], and the coach.“We have some young players who have done very well in pre-season. We’re a bit thin, but that’s not in the players’ control.”Kane has some concerns for this Bayern sideGettyIn terms of returning to the Premier League, Kane is the second-top goalscorer in the competition’s history. He is fewer than 50 goals away from Alan Shearer’s record of 260, and that could be on his mind as he approaches the twilight of his career. If he does decide to return to the Premier League, there is likely to be no shortage of suitors for the striker.Either way, Bayern have a decision to make.
