Arsenal’s EFL Cup campaign kicks off this month and now the Gunners have confirmed the key date for their opening fixture of the competition. Arsenal, along with some Premier League sides will enter into competition in the 3rd round stage. Port Vale will be our first opposition of the competition after the League One side defeated Birmingham in the previous round. The introduction of cup competition, including European commitments, will follow after the international break in what will be the proper commencement of another gruelling campaign.Port Vale date and historyArsenal’s Port Vale fixture has been confirmed to take place on the 24th of this month. The game will be held at their home ground, Vale Park, with the game scheduled to kickoff at 8pm. The two clubs will do battle for the 23rd time in their respective histories, while the last time they met was in an FA Cup third round replay in 1997-98 ( the majority of their meetings were in the second tier). The Gunners faced Bolton Wanderers at this stage of the competition last season, dispatching their opposition with comfort. However, Arsenal crashed out of the semifinals last season, losing on a 4-0 aggregate scoreline to Newcastle United. They will be looking to go one better this campaign as Mikel Arteta’s men bid to win silverware.Trossard (Photo by Ryan Pierse/Getty Images)Fixture changeIn other fixture news, Arsenal’s game against Crystal Palace in October has been rescheduled due to the Eagles’ participation in the UEFA Conference League. The match was due to take place on Saturday, October 25, however it has now been pushed back by a day. The game will instead take place on Sunday, October 26 at 2pm.Club football is currently on standby due to the first international break of the new campaign.
