Some people don't need a second driver on a road trip especially if they are not trying to drive 24/7 to get cross country in three days. Seems like it could be a good arrangement for the right person - willingness to get a van to share indicates they are planning to share expenses. It might not be for everyone but there could be someone who would like to do an extended road trip especially if someone is able to possible fund the car. They meet and see if they want to take it further.
