Maltese endurance runner Zach Vella is set to cross from France into Switzerland, marking a milestone in his epic 2,700-kilometre run from London to Malta in support of YMCA Malta.Having now covered over 700 kilometres, Vella is more than a quarter of the way through the challenge, with under 2,000 kilometres still to go. His journey has taken him through the United Kingdom and France, and now Switzerland, before he continues south through Italy and Sicily toward the final stretch home. The fundraiser is going strong, with donations surpassing €51,000—bringing Vella closer to his €120,000 goal to support YMCA Malta’s shelter and community services, including the Drop-In Centre and Ċentru Albert Degiorgio.Despite running the equivalent of an ultramarathon daily, Vella remains in solid form. He reports minor aches in his knees and calves, “just the usual battle scars of long-distance running,” but morale is high and determination unwavering.“Crossing into a third country feels like a real milestone,” Vella said. “The support from Malta and beyond has been incredible, and knowing that this helps raise funds for YMCA keeps me going every single day.”Vella is backed by a small support team handling logistics, route planning, and daily coordination, allowing him to focus fully on the physical and mental challenge ahead. The “Miles from Home” challenge continues to capture attention, raising awareness as well as funds for individuals experiencing homelessness and vulnerability in Malta.Donations can be made at homebound.mt or via Revolut on 79306655.
