I recall our neighbors adopting their daughter (now 13) from foster care...she was a toddler at the time, and unfortunately both parents had drug addiction issues, so reunification was not possible. The state shook the family tree pretty hard, but apparently addiction was present with a few others, and the other family members couldn't or wouldn't take her. As it's been so many years, and she was so young at the time, the little girl calls her adoptive parents Mom and Dad, no issues. They are both teachers and she is their only child, so she grew up much loved and doted upon. I recall the years prior to adopting her, my neighbors were so desperate for a child! They were willing to take any child - any gender, race or age. Then they were finally matched with their daughter, and it was a great situation for all involved. ❤️
