Mine are old too, and I work from home and most days, you wouldn't even think there were dogs here. They can't hear well enough to bark at sounds outside, and they sleep a lot. A couple rescue friends and I got a dog off a chain on Xmas a couple years ago, this very old, emaciated, blind and deaf old dog, he was absolutely pitiful. You could see all of his bones. I didn't expect him to have more than a few days of food and comfort. This past Xmas marked two years since we got him. He's healthy for an ancient dog, he's happy and loved and he LOVES to go for walks. He can't see or hear but he can SNIFF! Thinking about him chained up for all those years, ignored, and how marvelous it must be to finally get to walk around and sniff everything... He is a miracle and we are so lucky to be part of making his final years really excellent. I doubt he thinks of before, but we sure do, and marvel at the pictures of him that Xmas, and now. 💙
