Baffling Crash Sparks Chaos at Disneyland, Guests Walk off Ride

Wait 5 sec.

An incident took place at Disneyland Park yesterday, forcing some guests to evacuate one attraction.Incidents are rare at Disney. However, like all theme parks, they can – and do – happen. In the past, Big Thunder Mountain Railroad has derailed at Walt Disney’s OG theme park, injuring several guests and proving fatal for one rider. We’ve also seen Space Mountain derail, forcing a mass guest evacuation, as well as WEB SLINGERS: A Spider-Man Adventure at neighboring park California Adventure.Credit: DisneyOne of the most accident-prone attractions is Autopia. Located in Tomorrowland since the Anaheim park first opened in 1955, the ride sees guests steer their own vehicles – originally designed by Walt Disney Imagineering legend Bob Gurr – around a track, guided in part by a center rail. These cars have derailed several times in the past. Earlier this year, a video emerged of Disney cast members trying to push a red car out of a grassy area to the side of the attraction, and guests evacuating the ride’s queue. This followed another derailment in the summer of 2025.As per Disneyland guests, a similar incident occurred last night.Images shared on Reddit show a car turned sideways, blocking another rail on the track.Car accident at Autopia today. We were in traffic for 15 minutes and ended up walking off the ride. byu/ilikedesserts328 inDisneylandThis meant guests had to evacuate the attraction on foot. Some reportedly received a free Lightning Lane – a typically paid service that allows parkgoers to skip the standby queue for certain rides – as an apology for the situation. The biggest question from fellow Reddit users wasn’t how Autopia derailed, but rather how it derailed to such a dramatic extent.“That rail is so massive both in width and height,” said one user. “Do the cars even go fast enough that they could hit that hard? I mean I’ve been dead stopped and rear ended by a-holes goofing off on that ride but never had something like this happen.”Credit: Dolan Halbrook, FlickrAnother said, “I can’t even imagine how f***ing hard they had to hit the car in order to set it free…which by the way has always been a dream of mine on this ride.”One theory is that the car hit another so hard that it jumped the rail.“I was there earlier and kept hearing the announcement about not bumping the car in front of you. And I hadn’t ever heard it be so pronounced (I’ve only ridden it once…so idk),” one parkgoer said. “Maybe this was why? Lol. I just know my ears picked up on it and I glanced over to see what was happening. Don’t know what time it was. Sometime this evening.”What’s Next For Autopia?Disney has moved on from Autopia at several parks in recent years. Hong Kong Disneyland scrapped its version in 2016 to make way for the Avengers Quinjet Experience, which was later axed. A new, unnamed Spider-Man attraction is now set to take its place instead. Over at Tokyo Disneyland, the Grand Circuit Raceway closed in 2017 to clear space for the park’s Beauty and the Beast area, which now includes the innovative attraction Enchanted Tale of Beauty and the Beast.Credit: DisneyGuests can still find the attraction at Magic Kingdom (where it’s known as the Tomorrowland Speedway) and Disneyland Paris.Fans have feared similar changes impacting Disneyland’s version. Tomorrowland, in general, has been heavily criticized by fans in recent years for its lack of relevance. After all, there’s nothing particularly “tomorrow” about the highway in the 21st century.Earlier this year, an insider report claimed that Disney had axed a planned revamp for the land. What’s the worst experience you’ve ever had on a ride at Disneyland? The post Baffling Crash Sparks Chaos at Disneyland, Guests Walk off Ride appeared first on Inside the Magic.
