Fresh off a dominating score against maidens on the stretch-out in distance, Prom Queen (Quality Road) proclaimed herself the belle of the ball in Florida, winning the GII Gulfstream Park Oaks and stamping her ticket to the marquee gala on the first Friday in May.Away well and able to secure a good stalking spot to the outside of the early scramble, she watched My Miss Mo (Uncle Mo) post an opening quarter in :24.13 and a half-mile in :48.52. Under a confident hold after six panels in 1:12.49, the Brad Cox trainee ranged into striking contention as they rolled into the final bend and was the looming danger by the time they arrived at the head of affairs. Rolling to the front with ears pricked, Prom Queen bounded home to win with air to spare in a final time of 1:44.40. My Miss Mo gallantly held on to second while She Be Smooth (Lexitonian) grabbed third. After the race, Cox confirmed that their Gulfstream Park Oaks winner would be pointed toward a start in the GI Kentucky Oaks in May barring any unforeseen circumstances.
