The Aquatic Sports Association of Malta (ASA) confirmed that it has entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Malta Gaming Authority (MGA), granting the ASA access to the MGA’s report related to recent integrity concerns in Maltese water polo. The agreement follows the appointment of a dedicated Integrity Officer, who has established direct cooperation channels with the MGA in recent weeks. The ASA Integrity Office has launched an investigation into potential breaches of integrity involving several national water polo players. The inquiry is being conducted fully independently, in line with established regulatory procedures and governance principles, separate from both the ASA administration and the Authority for Integrity in Maltese Sports (AIMS). The Integrity Office is also coordinating with the MGA, European Aquatics, and World Aquatics to ensure a thorough and transparent process.“At this stage, the ASA Integrity Office notes that, based on the information currently available from the same report, the preliminary view does not suggest any match-fixing or deliberate attempts to compromise competition outcomes,” wrote ASA in the statement.ASA also said that some betting activity among certain individuals has been identified, which constitutes breaches of conduct, but preliminary findings indicate these actions do not amount to match-fixing.The investigation is ongoing, and the ASA Integrity Office will continue to monitor developments closely while assessing all information as it becomes available. What do you make of ASA’s statement?•
